The Importance of Exercise Workouts

Sunday, November 26th, 2006

There is a question that should be floating through the minds of many Americans: Am I physically fit? And I am not just referring to your exterior. Sure, it is great to look nice and be confident in yourself, but it’’s also crucial to be physically healthy. Do you know how to go about this? Well, herein lies the dilemma. Many individuals around the globe are not privy to what is imperative when it comes to looking great and being in good health. There are many misconceptions here. When in doubt, a couple things you can always count on to prevail are healthy diets and rigorous exercise workouts. We all require both of these in order to stay healthy and look great.

What exercise workouts do you prefer? For me it all revolves around martial arts. I love Wing Chun kung fu. Therefore, along with technique training and sparring, I enjoy doing a lot of simple exercise workouts such as push-ups, leg raises, and pull-ups. These common exercise workouts are as old as time, but still very effective. And do you know what I like best about them; they are all free. I do not need to fork out cash every month on a gym membership to do them. Not to say that this is a bad idea. For some, a gym membership is right up their ally. Maybe this is how you achieve your exercise workouts. If it works for you, then that is what counts. My wife will ONLY work out if she is in a gym or fitness center of some kind. When she is at home, getting her into any exercise workouts is virtually impossible. I even pick on her about it once in a while. It must be the plain and simple atmosphere for some folks. Regardless of where you like to get it done, exercise workouts are what will get and keep you in shape. It is a permanent thing. Once you start, you never quit. If you quit your regime once you are the desired weight, then you”ll probably end up back where you started.

One of the crucial side-kicks to exercise workouts is diet. You absolutely must conform to a healthy way of eating. This is no joke for a number of reasons. You must eat well in order to stay in shape. Your diet has a bearing on your lifespan, and your chances of acquiring cancer. If that is not enough to motivate you, then maybe your physical appearance is. Get on the web today and discover a numerous amount of great exercise workouts and diet plans.

Boosting Metabolism: Which way is the Right Way?

Saturday, October 21st, 2006

A concern for many at this point in time is losing weight. As it becomes easier and easier to eat high fat and low nutrient food, it also becomes easier to gain lots weight. There are many methods you should combine in losing weight in a healthy way.

The obvious way, of course, is to not eat as much. Or you can try to improve your diet and eat better. Boosting metabolism is also an obvious way to lose weight, and many people do this through exercise.

Your metabolism is, in easy terms, the rate at which your body uses the energy in food. In different people, natural metabolism is different. If you want to boost your metabolism there are several different ways to approach it.

If you exercise your metabolism will slowly increase as the cells in your body consume more in order to keep themselves going. Exercise should be varied – muscle building will help by boosting metabolism as well as using up more calories in the long term, and aerobic exercise, which can even be just going for a short walk, will slowly build up a higher metabolism, as well as increasing all around health.

Another way of boosting metabolism which at first, seems counter productive, is to just eatting more. As in, eat more often. If you eat below a certain amount of calories in a day, rather than boosting your metabolism, you are lowering it – cells start learning how to survive on fewer calories, and no longer require that many calories.

This is sometimes called starvation mode. This mode is how your body would survive if there was a famine. Cells don’t work that well in starvation mode. This is why it is important to eat breakfast every day.

There are also certain foods which can help in boosting metabolism. Sugary foods don’t help (these actually slow down metabolism rather than speed it up), but spicy foods have been seen to help in weight loss by boosting metabolism. Eating small, tasty, and healthy meals several times a day is the best approach when trying to lose some weight.

Sleep and stress also affect your efforts at boosting metabolism. Stress slows your metabolism and releases steroids called cortisol into your body that cause your metabolism to slow down, besides the fact that many dieters often want to eat more and unhealthy food when they become stressed.

Sleep is very helpful in boosting metabolism. Eight or nine hours a night is best for most people. If you exercise on a regular basis your metabolism will actually function much better.

Boosting metabolism is important because as people get older, metabolism inevitably slows down. By boosting metabolism, people keep their body fit and lean at optimum energy levels. So go out! Take a walk; actually take one three times a week for at least thirty-forty minutes.

Do You Own Aerobic Wear?

Thursday, October 19th, 2006

Do you participate in aerobics? If so, are you aware that the wrong aerobic wear can negatively affect your workout? Aerobic wear is an important part of the aerobic workout, and when the wrong attire is worn, discomfort and irritation is often the result.

While shopping for clothing to wear while doing aerobics it is important to purchase pieces which fit loosely and allow for free airflow. If you are wearing tight, binding aerobic wear, your movements are likely to be restricted and make the exercising ineffective.

Many people prefer to just throw on a sweat suit and head out for exercise class, and this is fine since this type of aerobic wear is lightweight, loose fitting and is made from breathable material. However, if you would rather leave the house looking stylish, even when aerobics class is your destination, there’s a variety of aerobic wear to choose from which will add a bit of flair to your workout.

This kind of active wear is available in many different styles, as well as a large selection of colors and designs. Visiting a major sporting goods store will give you the opportunity to browse many aisles of available aerobic wear. These items include shirts, shorts, pants, tank shirts and shoes all made to fit comfortably and fashioned from material that allows free airflow.

If you happen to be a common size, the Internet has quite a selction to offer in this arena. Many of the online vendors offer “buy one get one free” specials, as well as free shipping. Why not conserve gas and shop for your aerobic wear online?

It can be purchased separately, as individual pieces, or is available in two and three piece outfits. Buying pieces separately allows you to mix and match your favorite colors, but if you lack fashion coordination skills a set might be for you. Aerobic wear sets feature tops with matched bottoms, and sometimes a matching, lightweight jacket. A few good pieces in neutral colors will enable you to periodically add new items of aerobic wear as used pieces become to worn to be functional.

When shopping, don’t forget about the shoes. The shoes are very important! Good aerobic wear shoes should fit well, yet not be too snug. There are shoes especially made to be worn for aerobics, and while they may be a bit on the pricey side, the investment is worth it. Especially considering that it will save you the suffering from sore feet.

The clothing you wear when exercising doesn’t have to be dull and drab, nor does it have to cost a fortune. With just an afternoon of shopping, you should be able to pull together a stylish, economical aerobic wear wardrobe which will keep you on your toes!

My Gains With Aerobic Videos

Thursday, October 19th, 2006

For the past year I have been exercising with aerobic videos. You may not believe this, but let me tell you, if you have the right setup and the right attitude, they work every bit as well as an actual aerobics class. Even though many people buy aerobic videos, and then leave them sitting there, gathering dust, and never do anything with them, many other use them to catapult themselves into a healthier, more successful life. What’sthe difference? Why do aerobic videos work for some people, but fail miserably for others? Allow me to explain.

You see, it isn’t about the aerobics videos at all, but about the person watching them. The first and most important thing is that you have the correct attitude towards exercise which will result in success. You need, from the beginning, to set reasonable goals and a constant schedule of exercise that will help you succeed in all of your goals, and that is no easy task. That can’t come from the aerobic videos – it has to come from you. The most important thing however, is that you exercise regularly. Doing each aerobic video twice every third Sunday won’t cut it. Even if you never make it all the way through your aerobic videos to begin with you have to be using them every day or you won’t get the maximum results from them – in fact, you will hardly get any results at all. Set reasonable goals and stick with them. It’s no good telling yourself that you will do a two hour workout with your aerobic videos every day, and then failing right away. Set little goals, ones you know that you can succeed at, to build confidence.

Equally vital is to have a good space to do your aerobics workout. If you live in a cramped, one room apartment with clothing all over the floor, forget it. You can use some aerobic videos with much less space than you might think. However, if you don’t clear at least a little room to move around in, you will never reach any of your exercise goals, and that is a crying shame. The start of your aerobic workout is really setting a time, clearing out a space, and getting yourself excited about it. Don’t expect immediate success from using your aerobic videos. It will be hard work. But if you persevere, within a month you will notice major changes. I know I did. So start!

Which Aerobic Shoes Do You Wear?

Thursday, October 19th, 2006

People often underestimate the importance of proper aerobic shoes. They talk about doing the exercises right, planning out a routine, eating properly, hydrating properly, and all types of other workout tips, but they rarely talk about good gym shoes. Of course, if you are taking an aerobics class, then footwear does not matter. You will do all of your aerobic exercise on a padded mat, and wearing shoes will be discouraged, if not outright banned from the room for the sake of preserving the floor. But for many other aerobic exercises (with swimming and a few other excepted) proper aerobic shoes are a must. You just can’t protect your feet properly without them.

Which type of aerobic shoes are proper depends on what you are doing for your workout. If you are a serious runner, you need to get running shoes. These are lighter than other kind of aerobic shoes, and concentrate padding where runners need it. They are no good for playing tennis, for example, as they provide very little lateral ankle support. For tennis, or most other exercises that involve more than just moving in a straight line, you need a different kind of aerobic shoes: cross trainers or tennis shoes. Basically, both of these aerobic shoes are about the same thing – a more modern version of the gym shoe, with plenty of padding, but still a low top to allow some flexibility and movement at the ankle.

Of course, if you play basketball, you need bigger sturdier aerobic shoes to properly protect your ankle. These are called high tops, and they come up all the way to the top of the ankle. They are terrific for this sport, because you are repeatedly jumping high, bursting into sudden sprints in different directions, and doing many other things that can wreak havoc on your ankle. They protect you from injuries much better than any other type of aerobic shoes, and you will see almost all basketball players wearing them. They aren’t good for the multiple types of sprints that you have in tennis, however, and so are rarely, if ever, worn by tennis players. Then again, if you are a cross country runner, you need different aerobic shoes altogether. They will be sort of a combination between tennis shoes and light hiking boots, with a fairly light build and plenty of traction on the bottom. But that is another story entirely. So, there you have it, which shoes will you wear?

Have You Tried Aerobic Exercise?

Thursday, October 19th, 2006

One of my friends and I are going to do some camping along with staying at various small hotels and inns.  I’ve been involved with doing some aerobic exercise my entire life, either by walking or biking. When I told my husband our plans to go on a hiking trip he laughed. He doesn’t seem to feel either one of us will last two days.  I shared this with my friend, who is in shape, but does not consistently do any aerobic exercise; she took this as a challenge.

She began looking into the best aerobic exercise to prepare for our trip.  I attempted calling her during our lunch breaks, but could never locate her at her desk because she was out walking. Two nights a week she attended aerobic exercise classes. I went over to her apartment and found three DVD’s on various aerobic exercise programs. The woman is obsessed! We discussed that, when we first planned the trip, we were going to hike for short distances each day to take in the beautiful surroundings, now she was viewing this as an aerobic exercise challenge! She told me that I better start pushing myself more to build up my strength so that I would be able to keep up with her.

I went home and told my husband that I feared our relaxing; get in touch with nature trip was going to transform into a triathlon. He thought situation was quite humorous.  At least my friend is improving her health with the aerobic exercise, but I was really not planning on having to run up a hiking path. I selected an aerobic exercise tape for my walkman and started pushing myself more as well.  The first few walks I worked harder trying to deal with my frustrations towards my friend and husband, but as my strength improved and my lung capacity developed I found I was actually enjoying this higher level of aerobic exercise. When I went out shopping for clothes for the trip I found that I had dropped a pant size.  My clothes at home were fitting looser also.  I told my husband that this was my revenge for his challenge, a whole new wardrobe.  He doesn’t mind because he thinks I look great.

As the date of our trip gets near we’re getting more and more excited about going on our adventure.  Both of us look and feel better since we increased our aerobic exercise. So, if you hear about two women racing around the hiking trials in Glacier National Park, I’m one of them.

No Luck With Your Aerobic Dvd?

Thursday, October 19th, 2006

Three years ago I purchased my first aerobics dvd, and I haven’t used it since. I don’t recall what it was called – I have since misplaced it somewhere in the far recesses of my home, and haven’t seen it in months, but I do recall a few things about it. It was bright pink, and had some grinning guy in spandex and big hair on the front cover, telling you to get thin. At that time I had thought that the aerobic dvd would motivate me to get my rear in shape, but it wasn’t to be. Instead, my brand new aerobic dvd just decided to sit in the corner, gathering dust while I sat on the couch, growing fatter and in worse shape.

My second workout video purchase was a step aerobics dvd, but it worked no better. I think I did try that aerobic dvd a couple of times, but to no avail. I just felt so ridiculous sitting there at home, undulating along with a class on film who were not even in the room with me, pretending that I was doing something that was not completely silly. I just couldn’t make it a part of my routine. I had originally planned to start each day with the aerobic dvd and a shower, but when I would get out of bed in the morning, it was the last I had the intention of doing.

I have had three of four aerobic dvds since then and, to be honest with you, not one of them has done the trick at all. It simply isn’t that enjoyable to do aerobics, by yourself, in the living room, watching your aerobic dvd on the television. Nothing really happened that got me in shape from watching the aerobic dvd. Finally, I had to do what I had been dreading all along; I had to join a gym. As soon as I began to get my exercise from aerobics classes and not an aerobic dvd, it suddenly became so much easier to stick with the program. The classes got me out of my house, and the people in them were so encouraging, that I just couldn’t help myself. Almost immediately, I was hooked on taking exercise classes to get in shape. It was like you couldn’t get me away from them. Meanwhile, every aerobic dvd I have ever owned quietly gathers dust in the house of a newer, fitter me.

Have You Picked Out Aerobic Clothing?

Thursday, October 19th, 2006

When it comes to starting a workout, one of the most motivating things you can do is buy yourself some nice, new aerobic clothing. This motivational tool is very useful for many people who wish to get started on their exercise program in style. There’s more to consider than just looks, however, when it comes to aerobic clothing. So, making a rash decision may lead to your tossing the outfits on your exercise machines to collect dust.

It’s important to realize that your aerobic clothing is an integral part of your workout. You might not believe this right away, but bear with me. Wearing an outfit that is inappropriate for the routine will make you very uncomfortable! You will be less likely to return to the gym or even your basement if the exercise routine and your aerobic clothing are  not comfortable.

We have a tendency to avoid unpleasant situations. If you engage in an exercise routine which is demanding and your aerobic clothing is getting in the way, you will be less likely to repeat the routine. Your choice to forgo the workout isn’t necessarily due to the workout itself. You aerobic clothing was uncomfortable and it interfered with your enjoyment of the exercise.

Remember to keep it loose. Tight fitting aerobic clothing may limit your mobility and some can even restrict blood flow. There’s no point at all in working out if you do not have a full range of motion available to you. You also want to stay well ventilated and you definitely want the blood flowing naturally.

We all know that black is slimming but black is a definete no-no during summer workouts. Select aerobic clothing which is light in color. This reflects the sun away from you. Black absorbs the sun (and the heat). If you are too hot and sweaty you may become lightheaded and tire out much too quickly to reap the full benefits of your routine.

Yes, you are supposed to sweat, but you don’t want to start sweating before you have even stretched your muscles! Getting overheated is a large danger when engaging in physically demanding activities. Wearing light aerobic clothing will help you stay cool and energized during your routine.

People who live in cooler regions benefit from layering their aerobic clothing. Keep lighter materials close to the skin and put fleece and other heavier items over it. You can always peel a layer or two off if you begin to feel overheated.

Do You Go to an Aerobic Center?

Sunday, October 15th, 2006

I can’t describe to you just how much I love excercising at my aerobics center! Without some kind of fitness center, I think the stress of my job would have killed me before my fiftieth birthday! But I am fifty-two years old and still going strong! You see, I am a high-powered executive, working in a fortune 500 company in one of the top management positions. Many people believe that executives don’t do any work. They believe they just sit on their can and get rich off of other people’s work. Sure, for the very top few people, this is true, but for those of us one step down, this is not the case at all! On the contrary, we scurry about frantically and get very rich off of other people’s work.

It’s the scurrying that makes the aerobic center such a necessity! You might not be totally farmiliar with an aerobic center like mine. This is simply because it’s a very exclusive exercise destination. The aerobic center isn’t just another simple gym or health club where you come to take aerobic exercise classes. Sure, it does offer classes, but there’s just so much more. The aerobic center is basically the ultimate gym. Not only does it have 24 hour facilities, but they are the most comprehensive facilities imaginable. There are classes at all times of day and night, with some of the worlds greatest trainers. And that is just the beginning of what I get at my aerobic center.

The aerobic center offers many types of luxury and relaxation, including health drinks and light refreshment. If I wish to complete my aerobic exercises and relax in a jacuzzi, I am virtually guaranteed a private facility in which to unwind. There are masseuses available at all times of day and night, in addition to a personal trainer who will meet with you up to three times a week, if you desire it. They also offer more exotic forms of health therapy at the aerobic center, such as acupuncture, fasting and cleansing diets, as well as meditation. And just because it is an aerobic center, that doesn’t mean that it’s not equipped for aerobic exercises. There are plenty of weight lifting and strength training facilities in addition to the cardiovascular stuff. And then there are, of course, the recreational sports at the aerobic center. From racquetball to tennis, it is all there for the taking.

What’s Your Aerobic Activity?

Saturday, October 14th, 2006

In the new, wonderful world of exercise, there are all types of new gadgets for aerobic activity. It can be rather hard for you to sort through it all. These aerobic activity gadgets range from simple steppers, or jump ropes, to exotic machines whose function is nearly impossible to sort out. The purpose for all of these aerobic exercise toys is not because they are necessary, or even always useful for your exercise plan, but simply because of money. The simple fact is that, with the popularity of aerobic exercise, it is inevitable that people will create and sell new fads and products that claim to make it easier, more effective, and more fun all at the same time, but all of that is nonsense. The vital thing in aerobic activity is to elevate your heart rate for a sustained period of time. How you do that is entirely up to you. As long as you are exercising, you can go without the toys. That is, unless you like them in which case, I say, go for it.

Many of the best forms of aerobic activity are simply the traditional sports. If you get together and play basketball twice a week with friends, this alone may be enough to keep you fit and healthy. The important thing is to get some kind of aerobic activity, and to make it something that you enjoy enough to keep with it. Personally, my favorite aerobic activity is one that quite a few experts have agreed is one of the most healthy forms of exercise workouts: I love swimming! The advantage of swimming is that it works the entire body at once. Most exercises, such as running or soccer, only work the legs, or at most only partially work the upper body, but when you swim there is no part of you that is not getting some kind of a workout. This is great for you! Especially since, in addition, there is no impact. Running will wear out your knees, as will many other of the popular aerobic activities, but swimming does not compress the joints, so there is no compromise to the health benefits that it holds. I love this aerobic activity, but it might not be the right one for you. The greatest advice that I have is to join a gym for a month. This will let you try out lots of different aerobic exercises and find out which one(s) you like.
